How does Activity Based (Interaction-Centric) Scoring Work?

Learn how Introhive uses activities to dynamically determine a relationship score and keep it up to date.

Overview

Introhive's interaction-centric scoring model, also known as the activity-based scoring (ABS) model, provides a modern and dynamic way to assess relationship strength between users and contacts. This model quantifies relationship strength based on the analysis of activities, specifically email messages and meetings, that have been ingested into the hive. Unlike traditional scoring models, the interaction-centric model recognizes that relationships are not static; they diminish over time if there is no interaction, reflecting the dynamic nature of professional connections.

How Does it Work?

Introhive's interaction-centric scoring model centers around the analysis of reciprocal email exchanges and meeting interactions between a user and a contact. For each qualifying interaction, a score is calculated based on parameters defined within the hive's scoring configuration. These parameters include time windows and modifiers that influence the weight given to each interaction.

The calculated scores for each activity then undergo a process of diminishing value across five defined time windows. As activities move through these successive time windows, their contribution to the overall relationship score decreases. Consequently, activities within a more recent time window have a greater impact on the score than those in more distant windows. The overall relationship score is therefore dynamically influenced by the volume and recency of interactions within each window. High activity volume in recent windows increases the score, while a lack of continued activity leads to a decrease in the relationship score over time, accurately reflecting the evolving nature of professional relationships. The relationship scores and resulting relationship strength are updated daily within the hive.

Interaction-Centric Scoring Configuration

Introhive's interaction-centric scoring model is highly configurable, providing flexibility to adjust various parameters to meet specific customer requirements. However, we highly recommend using the default configuration values as a starting point.

Area

Configurability

Scoring Windows

  • The length of each quarter and the weighting for activities within each of the four most recent quarters.

  • The weighting for any activities that fall outside the 4 quarters.

Activity Inclusion

  • The minimum/maximum duration of a meeting before we include/exclude it as part of the scoring algorithm.

Activity Participants

  • The weighting applied to activities that include external participants.

  • The weighting applied to activities that only include internal participants.

  • The weighting assigned to direct participants in the email (i.e. senders and recipients).

  • The weighting assigned to indirect participants in the email (i.e. CCs).

  • The weighting for 1-1 meetings.

  • The weighting for meetings with more than 2 participants.

Activity Direction

  • The weighting for email messages that were sent by the user.

  • The weighting for email messages that were received by the user.

After Hours Communication

  • The weighting applied to email messages that were sent after hours.

  • The weighting applied to meetings that occurred after hours.

Inactive Relationships

  • The timeframe after which relationships that have not had any recent activities would be considered inactive.

  • The score assigned to any relationships that are considered to be inactive.

Relationship Strength Calculation

  • The minimum relationship score threshold to be included in the distribution calculation for the determination of relationship strength.
