FAQs for Using and Understanding Maps

What are maps?

Maps allows you to create visual influence and relationship maps, so you don’t lose sight of the decision makers and influencers, whether it’s for an account or a specific opportunity.

In maps you can add hierarchies between contacts, and visually create influence lines between contacts and/or colleagues.

Where do I access Maps?

Maps are accessed from the Home page in Introhive, by selecting the Maps icon, or by selecting the Maps tab when viewing any organization.

How do I create a Map?

  1. Select the Maps icon from the main screen

  2. Select the + Create new map icon to start a new map

  3. On the right you can choose to Associate an Organization to the map, or Add People
NOTE: Associating an organization makes it easier to find contacts and opportunities

  4. Select Associate an Organization

  5. Search for an organization to map by searching in the search box

  6. Select the organization

  7. Select Apply

NOTE: The organization name is now displayed at the top of your map. And the suggestions will include the option to Add people from Signals.

How do I add people to a map?

You can add contacts to a map in three ways:

  • Add People feature on the side bar

  • Add people from Signals option

  • Add people icon at the bottom of the map

NOTE: You can also create placeholders, which is covered later.

Adding people from the Add People feature

Select Add people from the right side bar. If you have closed this side bar, you can reveal it by pressing the lightbulb icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the map.

Introhive provides helpful suggestion to add contacts to maps, such as:

  • Top Relationships

  • Contacts with recent activity

  • Top connected colleagues to that organization, and

  • Top executives at the organization

You can choose to add all recommendations to the map or view the contacts to choose them individually. Choosing the Add xx to Map will add all contacts to the map. Choosing View Contacts will let you view the contacts.

If you choose View Contacts, Maps will display contacts that are not on the map, and ones from this selection that are already included. To add a contact, click and drag it to the map.

To find a contact on the map, you can select the locate button next to their name and the map will reorient itself to display the contact.

Once added, contacts cards will display the contact’s

  • picture

  • name

  • title

  • organization

  • number of connected colleagues, and

  • if they are synced to your connected CRM

Selecting the contact displays a box below it with options to change the contact card colour, view their Introhive profile, or by selecting the …More option, you can bring the card to the front or send it to the back when layering cards. You can also delete the card, or add it to your connected CRM.

Adding people from the Add People from Signals feature

This feature recommends contacts to add based on contacts featured in your Signals. Signals does need to be enabled for this feature to display. Select a contact from the list, then drag their contactcard to the map.

Adding people from the Add People button on the toolbar

This will display the Add people side bar. You can use the search bar to find a contact by name or title. Maps will automatically filter for contacts with the associated organization.

Select the Filter option to search for contacts in other organizations, by industry, colleagues that know them and colleague filters if you have Entra ID enabled.

To add Colleagues to your map, select the Colleagues tab from the Add people panel. You can search for and filter for colleagues here, then drag their card to the Map to add them.

Adding people who are not contacts

The Placeholder icon allows you to add people who are not contacts in Introhive.

  1. Select the Placeholder option, an Unknown Person card will appear on the map

  2. Select the Unknown Person card on the map

  3. Select Edit

  4. Enter the Contact details (name, title, email, etc)

  5. Select Update Placeholder

Yes - either double-click on the contact card or select the contact and press View profile, and the preview panel will display on the right.

NOTE: You can even navigate to the contacts / connected colleagues tabs and drag the cards from the preview panel to the map.

How do I add hierarchies and influence lines?

When you select a contact, circles appear on the top and sides of their card.

Select a top or bottom circle and drag it to another card to create a hierarchy.

Select a left or right circle and drag it to another card to display influence.

You can select the lines to delete them.

Selecting the influence lines allows you to change the colour of the line, which can be helpful for identifying different types of relationships.

The hierarchy lines will appear as dashed lines unless Introhive is connected to your CRM and can determine from the reporting fields that the hierarchy is mapped in your CRM. Then the line will appear solid.

These colours, along with the colours associated to a contacts card, can be tracked using the customizable Legend in the bottom right of the map.

How do I change the colours on the map?

You can change the colours of all cards (contact, colleague, note and Placeholder) and the influence lines. Selecting any element will present an option to change the colour of that element.

How do I label the colours on the legend?

  1. Select the Legend button on the bottom right of the screen

  2. Select Edit

  3. Edit the Labels for each colour

  4. Select Save

NOTE: In future, when you select the Legend button, your legend will display.

How do I add a note to the map?

  1. Select the Note option from the toolbar

  2. Select the blank note card that appeared

  3. Select inside the card to add your notes

What is a placeholder?

Placeholders are special cards for contact that you have not communicated with, and are unknown to Introhive. These could be contractors or external counsel to the company you’re mapping, but you have not communicated with them via email or meeting.

To create one:

  1. Select the Placeholder option, an Unknown Person card will appear on the map

  2. Select the Unknown Person card on the map

  3. Select Edit

  4. Enter the Contact details (name, title, email, etc)

  5. Select Update Placeholder

If a LinkedIn link is added, the LinkedIn lookup feature is enabled.

  1. Select More

  2. Select LinkedIn lookup to have Introhive find the contact details from LinkedIn.

NOTE: If at any point the email address on the card matches an existing contact in Introhive, the system will convert the placeholder to a contact card.

Can I share a map?

Yes! Maps are now fully collaborative with multiplayer functionality.

To share a map with others:

  1. Select the action button at the top of the screen

  2. Select Share

  3. Enter in a colleague’s name, from the window that appears

  4. Select the correct entry

  5. Select the drop-down menu on the right to grant access.
    NOTE: Access has four types:

    • Viewer: colleague can view, but not edit maps

    • Editor: colleague can edit the maps in real time with you

    • Transfer ownership: you are transferring all rights to the map to this colleague

    • Remove: you are removing access for this colleague

  6. Select Apply after making any changes

NOTE: You can also grant view access to your colleagues at large by selecting the dropdown menu under General access and selecting the appropriate option.

If you grant Editor access to colleagues, those colleagues can edit the map while you are in the map in real time. You will see their name appear on the screen and their profile picture will appear on the top right. They can edit and move elements in real time with you.

If you select their profile picture and choose click to follow, then the map will track them as they move across the map, and will reflect any changes they are making, such as increasing the size of the map or moving to another location on the map.

How do I change the Title?

Select the pencil icon to the right of the title, and enter in your title.

Can I download my map?

Yes - select the download option in the top left. After selecting it, you can download the map as a PNG image file or export the data to a .csv file.

Can I add an opportunity to maps?

Yes - if you are connected to SFDC or Dynamics CRMs, and Introhive has visibility to your opportunities, you can now add opportunity information to maps.

To get started:

  1. Ensure your map is associated with an organization

  2. Select the Opportunity link from the toolbar

  3. The Add opportunity side panel will display, featuring any open opportunities associated with the map’s organization

  4. Select and drag any opportunity elements to the map
NOTE: Remember to Apply when making any changes to a Map

Once on the map, you can select the opportunity card to change the colour or view the details of the opportunity.

When viewing the opportunity, Introhive will display the following, if populated in your CRM:

  • Contact roles

  • Opportunity Team

  • Details

You can drag a contact from the contact roles to your map, or edit the roles of the opportunity team to add contacts and change the colours of the labels associated with the contacts.

NOTE: Any contacts you add here will sync back to your CRM opportunity.
